Navigating Tax Season with SureEdge Professionals

December 30, 2025 · SureEdge Tax & Accounting

A behind-the-scenes look at how our team approaches tax season to deliver accurate, timely returns for every client.

Tax season runs from January through April, but at SureEdge Tax & Accounting, preparation begins long before the first document arrives. Here's how we approach the season to ensure every client receives an accurate, thorough return filed on time.

In January, before any client documents come in, we review each client's prior year return. We look for carry-forward items, capital loss carryovers, prior year credits, and any notes from the previous filing. We also flag life changes the client mentioned during the year, a new job, a home purchase, a business started, a child born. By the time their documents arrive, we already know what we are looking for and what questions we need to ask.

We give each client a personalized document checklist based on their specific situation. A straightforward W-2 employee gets a short list. A self-employed client with rental income and investments gets a comprehensive one that covers every income source and deduction category. Everything is collected through a secure portal. We do not accept tax documents by email.

Once all documents are in, preparation begins. Every return at SureEdge is prepared and then reviewed by our licensed CPA before it goes to the client. That review pass catches errors that a single-pass workflow would miss. We verify mathematical accuracy, confirm all income is reported, check that every deduction is properly supported, and run diagnostics for IRS matching issues.

Before we file anything, we walk the client through what was reported, what was claimed, and why. Clients sign Form 8879 electronically to authorize e-filing. We do not rush signatures.

After filing, we provide confirmation of IRS and state acceptance. Federal acknowledgment typically arrives within 24 to 48 hours. State acknowledgments vary but are usually received within a few days.

Tax season ends at filing, but our relationship with clients continues year-round. We send quarterly estimated tax reminders, answer questions as they come up, and flag any IRS correspondence that needs attention. If you are looking for a firm that stays engaged beyond April, we would be glad to talk.
